Garage floor epoxy coatings do not require much maintenance. Surfaces coated with epoxy are non-stick so all you need to do is just wipe off the dirt with a damp cloth. Attach the damp cloth to a tee stick and in a few minutes your garage is spotless clean.
Should the garage floor be extremely dirty, there are some do’s and don’ts on how you should do the cleaning based on the American Epoxy System.
For extremely dirty garage epoxy floors, pour some dishwashing liquid and rinse the floor with a garden hose.
Work the floor with a dust mop or a broom with soft bristles at least once a week.
Hose the floor to get rid of loose dirt and use a squeegee to bring out the water. You can also allow excess water to air dry.
Clean hard to remove stains and dirt by water and nylon brush (stiff).
Spot clean fluid leaks with a soft cloth as soon as possible.
For soiled floors that need heavy cleaning, add about 5 ounces of ammonia to a gallon of hot water. Use the solution to mop (foam type) the floor. Sweep the floor of loose dirt before mopping.
Use hot water and a regular scrubbing pad for rust and stains.
Use a soft scrub if the rust and stains seem tough. If traces of stains remain, clear it off with 1 part each of cleaning solution and water. Slightly soak a scrub pad in the solution and apply it directly to the stain. Rinse it off immediately (in 2 minutes) with cold water.
Remove white marks left by your car’s air conditioner condensation, wash it off with the cleaning solution and water solution.
Remove tire marks by soaking the area with a concrete degreaser or cleanser. After a few minutes, scrub off the tire marks with brush with nylon bristles.
Never use harsh solvents or detergents on garage floor epoxy coatings.
Avoid using citrus cleansers and vinegar at all cause. The acid content of these cleaners will in time, affect the gloss finish of epoxy coating.
Avoid using cleaners that have soap content will leave the floor with its residues. It will make the floor look dull. When the residue gets into contact with even a small amount of water it will cause the floor to be slippery.
Avoid leaving brake cleaners, battery acids, carb cleaners and harsh solvents on the floor longer than required.
Avoid using a green scrub pad when dealing with stubborn stains. It will make the surface of the floor fade.
It is relatively easy to clean and maintain garage floor epoxy coatings because it is highly resistant to dirt and dust. The high gloss epoxy finish of the floor makes it easy to clean stains and chemicals, too.
